Official 2017 r/NFL Top 100 Players (of the 2016 Season) - Honorable Mentions

Welcome to the appetizer for the 2017 r/NFL Top 100 Players (of the 2016 season) list!

In today’s post, we’ll briefly go over those players who just missed making the actual list of the Top 100 players, and we will introduce our replacement to last year’s oft-controversial “Over/Under Rated” poll.

Each day, we will have a link at the end of the list where you can tell us if you think those 10 players will perform better or worse (or roughly the same) as last season. We will give the results of that poll with the next set of players, and we will return to them next season to see if the herd was correct with their guess for each player. Each poll will be a Google Form, and it will require you to sign in, but this is ONLY to ensure that people don’t spam the poll in one direction or the other. We do not, and will never collect the email addresses or any identifying information whatsoever.

And now, with that out of the way, before we get to the Honorable Mentions, we the rankers realized that kickers and punters will never make this list, but DAMNIT they are football players and they are IMPORTANT so we decided to recognize the best kicker and punter of the 2016 season in a section we I have dubbed: WHAT A PAIR OF LEGS! (sorrynotsorry).

We start with our #1 Punter of 2016, and fellow Redditor:

#1 Punter - Johnny Hekker - Punter - Los Angeles Rams

Punts Yds Net Yds Lng Avg Net Avg Blk OOB Dn IN 20 TB FC Ret RetY TD
98 4,680 4,508 78 47.8 46.0 0 11 11 51 1 40 35 152 0

Look at those stats right there! In 16 regular season games he punted the football 2.66 MILES. And he was so damn good at it that on 98 punts he allowed only 152 return yards! Seriously?!?! A yard and a half average per return? Johnny Hekker is simply not human! He is the Tom Brady of punters! Tom Brady is the Johnny Hekker of quarterbacks! Do you want to know why the Los Angeles Rams offense was so damn bad last year? Because even THEY wanted to watch this god among mortals kick the ball into the air with an ease that makes the average man weep for being so bad at whatever it is he does! It is a TRAVESTY that kickers and punters don’t make this list, because Johnny Hekker would be the consensus, unanimous #1 player in not only the NFL, but every sport!

And now, the #1 Kicker of 2016, and somehow NOT a fellow Redditor (that we know about. HI!):

#1 Kicker - Justin F***ING Tucker - Kicker - Baltimore Ravens

Lng FG Att FG Made Pct XP Att XP Made Pct Blk KO Avg TB Ret Avg
57 39 38 97.4 27 27 100.0 0 80 63.4 52 26 20.8

You know what, hold on… You know what? Those stats are wrong. Justin F***ING Tucker didn’t miss a single kick all season. He only allowed a Patriot to block one in Week 14 because he felt sorry for the guy because he played with a mere mortal kicker. Have you ever seen someone be as amazing from outside of 50 yards as Justin F***ING Tucker? Don’t lie, because you haven’t. And neither have we. Our human eyes aren’t meant to see such grace and perfection, so Justin F***ING Tucker beams a reasonable facsimile of the kick into our cerebral cortex picoseconds BEFORE he kicks the ball so our brains don’t blow up from the sheer awesomeness of what happens. And even though Justin F***ING Tucker is a great kicker, he is an even BETTER person. When he says “updog” you just HAVE to ask “what’s updog” so that when he replies you feel AMAZING that Justin F***ING Tucker cared enough about your existence to crack a joke with you. ALL PRAISE BE TO JUSTIN F***ING TUCKER.

And now that our worship of the almighty legs of glory has completed, here are this year’s sad and pathetic mortals Honorable Mentions:
